The Bantam Sniper HR.
The Bantam Sniper HR from Brocock is taking the market place for PCPs as a formidable and accurate PCP air rifle. This Bantam Sniper HR has a 480 cc carbon wrapped bottle know as a ‘HiLite” by Brocock. Daystate also uses the term ‘HiLite’ for carbon wrapped bottles in the Daystate range. The advantages of a carbon wrapped bottle are that they are lighter and can hold higher pressures, especially when weight and volume are taken into consideration.
The disadvantage of the carbon bottle is that it is easily damaged and not viably repaired. Hence should you do hunting with this PCP air rifle, I recommend that you get a bottle cover available from Gunroom in early May. This will protect your investment should the rifle be dropped or subject to any abrasive such as rocks when hunting in extreme environments. The bottle has a “use-by” date of 15 years after which it is history and cannot be used any further.
The Bantam Sniper HR with a 480cc carbon wrapped bottle feels significantly lighter when shouldered than the same air rifle with a 500cc aluminium bottle, when actually there is only a margin of 414 grams in it. The temptation for the hunter is to go for the lighter of the two PCPs, which is OK providing you can minimise the risk of damaging your carbon bottle by using a bottle guard for example.
A word of warning for all Brocock owners, do not try a fill the air tanks too quickly as the Foster fittings have a filter and one-way valve that can get damaged by ‘dumping’ high pressure at once when filling.
The Bantam Sniper HR specifications.
The Bantam Sniper HR differs from the earlier Bantam by the fitment of a Huma Regulator that flattens out the parabolic curve of the early Bantam due to the regulation of available air pressure. The shooter will welcome the reduced standard deviation between shots that equates to better shot placement. This model still uses the Sling-shot hammer system that is still the best hammer system on the market today in my humble opinion (baring electronic regulation).
Of course this Bantam Sniper HR does not vary in performance any from the 500cc aluminium model Bantam Sniper HR, other than that stated. Both models still retain the following:
a power adjuster,
10 shot magazine,
single shot tray,
Beech stock option,
resettable safety catch
and 2 stage trigger.
Please note that the 25 cal option of the Bantam Sniper HR does not utilise the Sling-shot hammer, but the more conventional solid hammer.
Brocock Bantam Sniper HR Warranty.
Those of you new to Gunroom, need to know that we offer a 3 year warranty for ALL the PCPs that we sell other than some special orders of obscure PCP air rifles. Further to this, we also offer a 3 year service warranty, whereby you can send us the air rifle for a test and service at no cost other than freight. Any parts used are also free. Can you get this sort of back-up from your local dealer who offers to sell you an air rifle that he lacks the experience with?
The Bantam Sniper HR is here to stay as it is getting a positive following as a results of its accomplishment in air rifle competitions in the USA.
