The AirForce Texan big bore PCP air rifle in .457? is one of the most powerful production PCP air rifles in the world at present, May, 2016. It uses lead bullets with energy ratings of an incredible 500Fpe and speeds of 1000 FPS and higher with tuning that makes this an ideal hunting air rifle. You will note that I say lead bullet speeds because that is exactly what this gun uses, .457? lead projectiles from 143 grain right up to 405 grain solid lead projectiles.
In the AirForce PCP tradition, this PCP air rifle maintains the single shot loading system that has proven both reliable and sought after. It also has a power wheel differing slightly from the Talon and Condor PCPs by AirForce.
The AirForce Talon, Condor and Texan for comparison.
The AirForce Texan also utilizes the German Lother-Walther barrel as do the Talon and Condor models. It is fitted with a 11mm dovetail rail both above and below the rifle frame to accommodate those accessories that one may require to customize their hunting rifle, because that is exactly what this is, a hunting air rifle. We will soon have the Texan in .308? and .357? for those of you who want to hunt smaller game without the ?over-kill? element.
Unlike a majority of PCP air rifles, the AirForce Texan does have a kick to it when fired, so some thought needs to be given to fitting a quality scope for longevity. We also do some work on this PCP before it is sent out, including test firing and Chronographing results. After-market PCP tuning and accessories are available for the Texans purchased through Gun Room.
This is a big PCP in anyone?s terms and definitively not suited to someone slight of frame or with any physical impediment. To summarize the AirForce Texan it is one serious big bore PCP air rifle for the avid hunter.
